A Photographer’s Dream

2016-09-26_0001

What a ball of sunshine this little guy was, with the most charming personality. He was so thoughtful, curious and 100% daddy’s little boy. The two of them drove trucks, picked berries, and climbed and climbed and climbed. Their beautiful property was a photographer’s dream, I was inspired with every turn. But I think my favorite part was while C slept, A had a snack, and I got to photograph mom and dad together. I love hearing where families stories begin, and I cannot see where they continue to grow. Thank you B family for letting me into your beautiful home!

Portraits

2016-09-26_0002

Oh these kids… I could have stayed with them all afternoon. They were such naturals in front of the camera and so relaxed. We even played some Minecraft (That’s right.. I totally know all about Minecraft!) And they let me play with MY new toy! The 85mm 1.4 lens and ohhhh am I in love. The creamy, crisp portrait shots it gave me… swoooon!

Boys will be boys

2016-09-26_0003Leave it to the boys to find the one piece of sharp splintered, potentially dangerous… yet artistically perfect piece of driftwood in the vicinity of our session. And their beautiful mama let them play as they usually do, being sure to share with me this is the perfect demonstration of her little explorers.

Little Miss Expressive

2016-09-26_0004

Check out those eyes. Her emerging curiosity, wonder and determination were just a few of the highlights of this little one’s personality. Her mama wanted to be sure to capture her little girl before her little brother came along. We made sure to highlight her little nursery which pretty soon wouldn’t be hers anymore! HERE is another favorite from the outside part of our session.

Routines

2016-09-27_0007

An on-again-off-again rainy day can be a bummer, but it certainly has its perks. We get to spend almost all day inside their beautiful home! I adore being able to document the lives of young families. Often times there are so many moments (getting dressed in the morning, feedings, snuggling, etc.) that seem so routine now and “not worthy of photographing”, but I promise you will treasure them when your babies grow up *way* too fast.

Those Colors

2016-09-26_0009I always suggest bold colors and patterns for your photo shoot wardrobe, and this family nailed it. While the main focus of the images is their contagious laughter, their color pops are very visually appealing and gives the images that much more interest. But even with those colors, I am still sucker for old fashioned black & whites.

The Kind-of-Surprise Shoot

thomasGet ready, this is a long one 🙂

So I have been anxiously awaiting their arrival and to finally get to have a proper shoot with them that was scheduled for a prime-time Saturday slot in October .. that little did I know my sly boyfriend had this whole plan up his sleeve. Saturday morning we get a call that poor Baby W was sick and they couldn’t make it down anymore. Such a bummer. We decide to make it a fun night despite the disappointment and plan an “impromptu” trip the the beach for some drinks before dinner. After a drink and a glimpse of the sunset, my incredible, amazing, wonderful, perfect man got down on his knee and asked me to marry him!!! We spent the entire night surrounded by the people we love celebrating. I am so excited I can’t even put it into words. So! The next morning we woke up, got dressed and had a shoot with my soon-to-be sister in law and her beautiful little family. His hair has grown a bit since his 4 month shoot, but not enough to cover up that incredibly charming mohawk of his. And believe it or not, I didn’t touch his eyes in Lightroom.. they are THAT blue.

Discovery

2016-09-26_0005

weintraub_01

Discovery is a magical process. Something I find so fascinating about children is their unyeilding curiosity and zest for new things. Like sand, for example. I could have just watched her for hours the way she cocked her head and sifted it through each of her fingers; letting each of her five senses experience this brand new thing. The way she looked up at mom and dad to make sure it was okay. But the coolest part mom and dad probably didn’t even realize is they did it too. The way they looked at their first born daughter… touched her, smiled at her and just watched her be. It was just magical.

Portraits

These siblings… My feelings are summed up with the first image in this collage. We had the windiest day of 2013 so it was cracking them up when their hair was blowing all over the place. Unprovoked, he reached his hand towards his sister and tucked her hair behind her ear. It was so simple but totally set the tone for the rest of the session. Mom and Dad, you have raised three beautiful children adults: both inside and out.
